STEPHEN F. DeANTONIO, ESQ., was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on July 17, 1956. He attended local schools and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 1978. He then worked in the broadcasting industry before attending law school at U.S.C. In law school, he captained the American Bar Association Moot Court Team in Regional Competition and was also admitted to the Order of the Barristers. Mr. DeAntonio is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association and the South Carolina Bar. He is also a member of South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association. He was appointed by the Supreme Court of South Carolina in 1989 as a member of the South Carolina Bar's Client Security Fund Committee (later renamed the Lawyers Fund for Client Protection), on which he was an active participant and guideline drafter. In 1993, he was confirmed by the Court to chair this committee. His term ended in 1995.
Mr. DeAntonio's practice is limited to claims, litigation and alternative dispute resolution. The concentration of his practice is commercial lines work, plaintiff and defendant, including liquor liability, premises liability, adulterated food cases, product liability and auto. Other areas include tort litigation, insurance coverage issues, significant subrogation, defamation cases, media libel and slander. Steve has been a frequent speaker at seminars for other attorneys, as well as insurance companies, on insurance litigation, discovery and other matters. He has been named to the Editorial Board for the treatise, The Law of Automobile Insurance in South Carolina. Mr. DeAntonio also performs mediation services. He has been certified as a Circuit Court mediator by the South Carolina Supreme Court.
